Instrumentation Enclosures
|
|
Neglect or failures in instrument protection can seriously affect plant safety and the operation of the complete system. Even operating and maintenance costs can be reduced considerably by providing adequate instrument protection
IMPACT RESISTANS/MECHANICEL ABUSE
All parts (flat surfaces, corners, etc.) of the enclosures were subject to impact and abuse tests as specified in U.L.
Standard 508.
DIELECTRIC STRENGTH
467 Volts/mill per ASTM D648.
FLAMMABILITY
Self extinguishing (ASTM D635)
HIGH CURRENT ARC IGNITION
Tests terminated after 2000 arcs failed to produce ignition.
HEAT DEFLECTION
Fiberglas enclosures tested ASTM D648. No deflection measured at temperature up to 392°F at which point test was terminated.
FUME TOXITY
Fumes emitted during burning to destruction are non-toxic in nature, except for some nominal emission of carbon monoxide, which is common with all organic materials.
TEMPERATURES RESISTANCE
Fiberglass materials are suitable for use in environments of from –58°F to 320°F. Momentary temperatures of 392° will not be harmful.
WATER ABSORPTION (2 x 2 x 5/32 coupons)
Fiberglass – 45 mg in 4 days
VOLUME RESISTIVITY
Fiberglass lateral tested for volume resistivity to ASTN D257
After 40 hours at 73.4°F, 50% relative humidity – 1 x 1015 ohm cms.
COLOR
Fiberglass is colored a pleasing neutral grey. The color is molded-in and is homogeneous. Throughout the material.
Enclousures may be painted with high grade polyurethane or epoxy paints after suitable surface preparation. Specific details furnished upon request.
STABILITY
DIN53388-7 (best figure by this method is 8). Useful outdoor life for polyester materials exceeds 25 years. Erosion is less than 3% of thickness over 30 years and does not affect mechanical strength. UV protected throughout the material.
WORKING QUALITIES
Enclosures may be modified by drilling, sawing, hole punch, etc. The pre-impregnated hot molding process renders after-treatment of worked areas completely unnecessary.
TROPICAL DUTY
Suitable for use in tropical service. Tropical environment tests, to IEC68-2, were performed without damage to enclosures, also resisting mold, fungus growth, etc.
VERMIN; TERMITES; ETC:
Enclosures will resist attack by rodents, vermin, termites, etc.
